Campus Committees

In any given month, dozens of committees on campus are convening with the intent of making San Bernardino Valley College the best that it can be today and in the future. Committee structures are based on the concept of shared governance as called for in Education Code 70902(b)(7).

Shared governance provides the opportunity for "effective participation" for staff and students in decisions that affect them.

San Bernardino Valley College refers to our model as “Participatory Governance".

Academic Senate

The Academic Senate is an organization whose primary function is to make recommendations with respect to academic and professional matters.

The Accreditation and Student Learning Outcomes Committee

The Accreditation and Student Learning Outcomes Committee prepares the self-study, prepares for the accreditation team site visit, follows up on the implementation of accreditation recommendations, performs assessments as needed, and prepares any follow-up reports or documentation.

Arts, Lecture, and Diversity Committee

The Arts, Lectures & Diversity Committee plans and promotes an ongoing series of lectures and cultural events designed to celebrate the communities diversity and our commitment to it.

Basic Skills Committee

Creates the planning documents, oversees the implementation of the campus basic skills plan, and prepares the college’s basic skills report.

BookSaver Task Force

A taskforce set to collaboratively improve upon the student experience with the new BOOKSAVER book rental program.

Budget Committee

Serves in an advisory capacity to College Council in all aspects of budget development and management to protect the financial well-being of the college and to operate successfully within our budget.

Classified Senate

The SBVC Classified Senate is an organization of classified staff from all areas of campus whose purpose is to represent classified staff in the collegial consultation process.

College Council

The College Council has three primary functions: planning, issue management, and communication.

Curriculum Committee

Curriculum is an academic matter and, therefore, the curriculum committee is authorized by the Academic Senate to make recommendations about the curriculum of the college.

Distance Education Committee

Advises the Vice President of Instruction regarding all modalities of Distance Education offered at the College.

Enrollment Management & Student Equity Committee

The Enrollment Management and Student Equity Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the President’s cabinet regarding enrollment.

Facilities & Safety Committee

The Facilities & Safety Committee is charged to identify and recommend to the College Council specific actions and strategic plans that serve the institution's mission.

Faculty Chair Committee

A committee of the faculty chairs of the SBVC academic departments.

Guided Pathways Committee

Rather than work with a subset of students, Guided Pathways is a college-wide undertaking that provides a framework for integrating California-based initiatives such as SSSP, Equity, Basic Skills Transformation, the Strong Workforce Program, and California College Promise.

Managers' Meetings

SBVC managers (directors, deans, vice presidents) meet as needed with the President to review and discuss items as submitted to the College Council, and to study leadership theory and practices.

Matriculation Committee

Authorized by the Academic Senate, we oversee the annual review of the Student Success Plan, proposed the budget for categorical matriculation funds, and matriculation policies, including admission, orientation, assessment, counseling, and research

Professional Development Committee

The Professional Development Committee provides resources and leadership that actively engage all members of San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) in continuous personal and professional growth.

Program Review

The Program Review Committee examines and evaluates the resource needs and effectiveness of all instructional and service areas.

Technology Committee

The Technology Committee advises on technology planning, implementation, and resource allocation to support the college’s mission and goals. It ensures the effective integration of technology in instruction, administration, and student services.
