The 2023 - 2024 SBVC Academic Senate sessions will be held on campus face-to-face. The state of emergency outlined in AB 361 allowing Brown Act committees to meet virtually no longer exist. 

All are welcome and encouraged to join. The meeting days and times are provided below. The agenda, minutes, and related documents for each meeting can be accessed through the Agendas and Minutes page.

The Academic Senate meets every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesday of the Academic Year. Meetings are from 3:00-4:30pm.

Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations, Section 53200 Definitions

Academic Senate means an organization whose primary function is to make recommendations with respect to academic and professional matters.

Academic and Professional Matters refers to the following policy development matters:

  1. Curriculum, including establishing prerequisites and placing courses within disciplines
  2. Degree and certificate requirements
  3. Grading policies
  4. Educational program development
  5. Standards or policies regarding student preparation and success
  6. College governance structures, as related to faculty roles
  7. Faculty roles and involvement in accreditation processes, including self-study and annual reports
  8. Policies for faculty professional development activities
  9. Processes for program review
  10. Processes for institutional planning and budget development

+1. Other academic and professional matters as mutually agreed upon between the governing board and the academic senate.
