Reminder: Students who use the Writing Center service may be automatically enrolled in the LST-606 noncredit course. Students will not be charged for the course, nor will it affect their GPA.  It is used to document the usage of services to help with apportionment funding for tutoring/learning services.  Learn more about LST-606.

ESL Workshops are designed to support English language learning students with their development and understanding of the English language.  These workshops are recommended for students who are currently attending ESL classes or who believe that they can benefit from English language practice with speaking, listening and reading.  Workshops are FREE to SBVC students!

Requirements, Tips & Policies

  • Only SBVC students with an active student ID number may participate in any workshop offered by the Writing Center.
  • Anyone acting inappropriately or showing inappropriate content during workshop sessions may lose tutoring/workshop privileges and disciplinary action may be sought.
  • Anyone exhibiting rude or offensive behavior and/or language during workshop sessions may lose tutoring/workshop privileges and disciplinary action may be sought.
  • Participants need to be on time for workshops.  Participants who are late to a workshop may not be permitted entry into the workshop since it will interrupt the session.
  • Recordings and PowerPoint presentations for workshops are not available for distribution.  However, students may take notes and ask the presenter questions during the workshop presentations.

To receive a verification email indicating workshop attendance, participants must attend and participate in the workshop.

  1. At the beginning of a workshop, the presenter will provide a link in the Chat box in Zoom for you to click on to access the online attendance form.  Please follow the presenter's instructions carefully.
  2. To sign in to the workshop, be sure to enter all of the required information into the online attendance form.
  3. At the end of the workshop, you will be asked to access the online attendance form one more time to sign out of the workshop.  Be sure to enter all required information into the online attendance form to receive a verification email for workshop attendance.
  4. Note: Verification emails take about 24 to 48 hours to receive.

In-Person Workshops:

  • No registration is required.  Simply go to the location indicated on the day and time of the workshop 

Online Workshops:

  1. Join the workshop using the Zoom link provided in the schedule below. Note that the link will only work on the scheduled date and time.
  2. When you click the link, you will be taken to a site called the SBCCD Portal.  Enter your User Name and Password as follows:
    • Username Format: <username>@student.sbccd.edu (Example: j.doe1234@student.sbccd.edu, username would be j.doe1234)
    • Password: The password is the same one that you use for SelfService.
  3. Once successfully logged in, you will be taken to the Zoom room of the workshop.
