English Proficiency
San Bernardino Valley College does not offer an English Language Learning Program or English Second Language (ESL classes) to international students at this time.
If you apply to SBVC, please do so with the intent to immediately begin taking course work that will require English proficiency. You will also begin wit college level English 101 by your second semester.
All classes in the college are conducted in English. To successfully complete an academic program, applicants must demonstrate that they have proficient English communication skills. The required TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score is 45 (on the Internet-based test) or higher. Information regarding test dates and locations can be found at https://www.ets.org/toefl/. San Bernardino Valley College's Institution Code is 04679. The college also accepts IELTS test result. The minimum IELTS score required for admissions is 4.5
The TOEFL or IELTS may be waived for applicants whose native language is English or who has attended high schools or universities for at least three years where English is the primary language of instruction. You must submit the TOEFL/IELTS Waiver Form with supporting documentation if you are requesting to waive the exam.
Regardless of which you new students have met the international student English proficiency requirements, all newly admitted students will still be required to complete the Guided Self Placement to assess the levels of their English comprehension and writing skills before registering for classes.
