Science Prerequisite GPA

  • A minimum of a 2.8 is required.
  • 3 courses are considered in the calculation of your Science Prerequisite GPA:
    • Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, and Microbiology.

General Education Prerequisite GPA

  • A minimum of a 3.0 is required.
  • 7 courses are considered in the calculation of your General Education Prerequisite GPA
    • Please refer to the Required General Education Prerequisites section of the SBVC Nursing Prerequisites Page to view the GE courses considered in your GPA calculation.
    • Note: Ethnic studies is a required General Education Prerequisites GPA.

Cumulative GPA Requirement

  • There is no minimum Cumulative GPA requirement for the General Associate Degree in Nursing program or LVN-RN Bridge Program.

All of your prerequisite classes must be completed to be considered for our Nursing Programs. If they are still in progress, unfortunately, your application will NOT be considered.

Spring 2024 Application Cycle for Fall 2024 Entry and Beyond

SBVC Nursing Programs will no longer have a recency requirement. Sciences will not expire.

Online science prerequisite classes (Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology) will be accepted only if:

  • The course was taken between Spring 2020 and Fall 2021 AND
  • The class was a previously accepted science course that was adapted to an online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Hybrid courses taken after December 2021 will be accepted after December 2021 only if:

  • The lab portion of the course was taken in-person; the lecture portion can be online or in-person. AND
  • The science course was a previously accepted science course

Science repeats will not count against students in the application review process.

All prerequisite courses completed outside of SBVC, including Crafton Hills College, require an Evaluation of Prior College Credit.

To obtain an Evaluation of Prior College Credit, you must submit the following to Admission and Records evals@valleycollege.edu - (OR A&R Office AD/SS-100): 

  • Submit all Official College Transcripts (Please have them either mailed or sent electronically). 
  • Student must have completed all prerequisite courses.
  • If you are using AP credit, official college board results must be on file.  
  • Prior Credit Evaluations will be completed for the nursing program prerequisites ONLY. 
  • Please check the evaluation for courses with an asterisk(*). If so, review notes provided.
  • To bypass the 12 unit residency requirement, students must request their Evaluations of Prior Credit during the time frame below:
    • November 1st - February 28th for Spring applicants for following Fall entry
    • May 1st - August 30th for Fall applicants for following Spring entry
  • Send the completed Evaluation of Prior College Credit Form to evals@valleycollege.edu. Make sure you check the box that says "for Nursing"

Applicants who have completed ALL prerequisites at SBVC ONLY:

Schedule an appointment with a Nursing Counselor  prior to submitting your application to have your evaluation done. This is required to submit with your application. 

Yes. You will need a student ID number to apply for the program. Therefore, if you are not currently taking classes at SBVC, you will need to Apply to SBVC prior to applying to our program.
