Physical Sciences Building
First opened in the fall of 2011, the SBVC Physical Sciences (PS) building was designed to be the campus’ first LEED-certified building. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, recognizes buildings and communities that use strategies to improve performance in energy savings, water efficiency, indoor environments, and more.
Not only is the 56,000 square foot building the largest on campus, it is also the first of many sustainable facilities to achieve LEED recognition once it is officially certified.
Dozens of interactive, educational display signs featuring 13 variations on themes such as water efficiency and air quality are installed throughout the building. The provocative questions seen on each sign about the sustainable features in the building are answered via the website menu at the right. Visitors to the building can use their smartphone to scan the QR code that takes them directly to the web page where they can learn more about the sustainable features of the building.
