Taytayan Learning Community
In the Taytayan Learning Community you will be in a cohort of up to 25 students, taking classes together, taught through the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) lens.
“Taytayan” comes from Tagalog and means “bridge.". Through this community, we are aiming to bridge experiences of the API community with the greater SBVC community. The courses will be taught with culturally inclusive materials, spanning a wide range of API experiences. Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to join!

Our Mission: Taytayan is a learning community that centers the scholarship, cultures, stories, and voices of Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Our mission is to build a bridge for students seeking to explore and connect with Asian and Pacific Islander cultural identities. We strive to foster meaningful relationships and cultivate a strong sense of belonging, so that every student in Taytayan feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Our Vision: Taytayan envisions a thriving community at SBVC where Asian and Pacific Islander students are culturally affirmed, fully supported, and empowered to lead with confidence. We aspire to build lasting connections, celebrate diverse and intersectional identities, and honor intergenerational knowledge so students can navigate their educational journeys with confidence and pride.
