Meet Sadia Khan, Clean Air Campaigner

What is My Generation, and how did you get involved? It's a youth-led campaign that pushes for cleaner air in the Inland Empire [the sprawling network of cities and suburbs east of Los Angeles]. The campaign is mostly made up of teenagers--high school and college students. I got involved my freshman year of college. I went to a meeting about the effects of air pollution in our area, and that's when a lot of things clicked in my head.

While many high school students head to fast food restaurants after school for a quick bite to eat, socialize, complete homework or relax after a busy day, two juniors at Middle College High School had the vision to provide another option for their peers so they created options on their campus.

Two faculty members from San Bernardino Valley College recently displayed their work in the Inland Empire Museum of Art (IEMA). SBVC Art Department Chair Mandi Batalo and Ceramics Adjunct Professor Gina Lawson-Egana were two of only 43 artists featured in in the IEMA's exhibit Faces: Portraits from the Collection that ran through August 27th, 2017 at the museum's gallery in Upland.

County Board of Education Votes to Name New Site after Dorothy Inghram

The San Bernardino County Board of Education voted to name its newest facility after the first African American teacher in San Bernardino County, Dorothy Inghram, during its meeting on Sept. 5.
Chancellor's Letter on DACA Renewal

As you may know, earlier this month the Mission Asset Fund (MAF) announced a scholarship fund to help young immigrants pay for the $495 DACA renewal fee. Today, the fund is announcing it has now tripled in size to reach $3,000,000--enough to help 6,000 Dreamers renew their DACA permits for two more years. To date, 4,000 scholarships have already been issued, with 2,000 scholarships still available--making this DACA renewal fund the largest of its kind in the nation. It is also important to note, close to 900 of the applications received so far are from California community college students.
SBVC Hosts Records Number of Attendees at Monthly IE Disabilities Collaborative Meetings

It has been no less than a cavalcade of attendees to the meetings by the Inland Empire Disabilities Collaborative (IEDC)?--?a large advocacy network for people with disabilities?--?at San Bernardino Valley College over the past few months, with each person boasting hearty smiles and sentimental echoes of their shared life experiences. Attendees with various ties to disabled services in the community have shown and continue to show their support in this SBVC cohort.
