The study of art involves both an appreciation of the cultural heritage of art and the development of skills. Consequently, the Art Department offers art history courses and studio courses in drawing, 2D and 3D design, ceramics, painting, life drawing, typography, graphic design principles and digital practices, design thinking, beginning 3D digital animation and visualization, web and interactive web design, digital photography, sculpture, design in glass, and glassblowing. In addition to associate degrees in art and graphic design, the department offers two certificates in graphic design and web and multimedia design, designed for students seeking employment in design, advertising, and entertainment. A baccalaureate degree in art qualifies students for fine arts, industry, and education jobs. Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution and major in art should consult a counselor regarding the transfer process and lower division requirements.
