Week of May 27, 2025
Greetings, Wolverines!
Last week’s Commencement at San Manuel Stadium was spectacular: a moving and joyful celebration of student achievement, family pride, and campus unity. A heartfelt THANK YOU to the many faculty, staff, managers, volunteers, and student workers who made the day run so smoothly. From sunrise setup to final diploma, we provided a truly special celebration for our community. Thank you to our stage crew, marshals, name readers, photographers, and all the behind-the-scenes heroes. If you missed the action or want to relive the moment, visit www.valleycollege.edu/commencement. Attached is my monthly board report and it spotlights all of the awesome events we have had over the last month as we have celebrated the end of the academic year.
Also, a programming note: as we move into the summer term, the Wolverine Weekly will be taking a break. Don’t worry, though! The Wolverine Weekly will be back in August. Be sure to submit your summer highlights!
Here are some things that are going on this week:
1. MIDDLE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL MILESTONES
- Senior Crossing – May 27 at 6 PM, Auditorium
- Graduation Ceremony – May 30 at 6 PM, Greek Theater
They’ve already had their college graduation – now, it’s time for our amazing Middle College High School grads to have their high school graduation. This event takes us back to SBVC’s roots: in the early years, the entire graduating class fit inside the Greek Theater! What a beautiful reminder of how far we’ve come as we approach our 100th year.
2. GUARDIAN SCHOLARS + NEXTUP SOLIDARITY & AWARENESS
May is Foster Care Awareness Month. Thank you to everyone who supported our Guardian Scholars and NextUp students through events like the Solidarity Walk, Wellness Day, Foster Ally Trainings, and the 2025 Conference. These moments helped our foster youth feel seen, supported, and empowered. Gratitude to the Guardian Scholars/NextUp team: Joanne Hinojosa, Cynthia Bernal, and Evelyn Luna.
3. CLASSIFIED APPRECIATION BBQ: FRIDAY, MAY 30 at NOON
The beloved annual Classified BBQ and Raffle returns to the Lois Carson Campus Center on May 30. All staff and managers from across the district are invited to join in recognizing our classified professionals. Manager contributions are welcome and help cover food and raffle expenses. All offices are encouraged to be closed to allow all classified staff to attend this beloved tradition.
4. CENTENNIAL LOGO UNVEILED
The votes are in, and we’re proud to share the official SBVC Centennial logo! Thank you for your participation and thoughtful feedback throughout the process. If you are interested in joining the process to help us plan an unforgettable centennial year, make sure to submit the interest form: Centennial Planning Form.
Thank you for an amazing 2024-25 school year. Let’s have an amazing summer!
Valley Up!
